KOEDAM DESIGN had previously worked on our client’s family homes, so when they purchased a beautiful holiday three bedroom apartment in Newcastle, we were called in to help with the Interior With Design and furniture selections and to make the process an easy and exciting.
With amazing views of the city, the beach and the harbour, a new interior concept was created for our client’s new family holiday home & sanctuary that brought a visual interpretation of these eclectic views.
One such items commissioned was the main focal point of the lounge space, a custom designed and coloured rug, an interpretation of the city and the frenetic cultural elements that this industrial and cultural city displays. Colours became a base for fabrics and furnishings.
Our brief was also to have an easy care home, were items were beautiful, but not precious. All items are to be able to be used, without the homeowners concern of damage. Their family dog accompanied them to their apartment, as well as young adult children and groups of friends, it was to be a haven of fun and memory making.
For our client, it was starting a fresh with furniture and artwork. We specified new custom made dining chairs with Sunbrella outdoor fabric to allow for ease of care and due to the sun, steaming in, fade resistant. Large vintage recycled Elm timber tables with powder coated bases were specified for both the indoor and outdoor dining as well as exterior grade chairs and a cosy outdoor lounge filled with exterior grade fabric cushions.
All bedrooms were designed including two guest bedrooms that had custom designed wall mounted bedheads that spanned across the wall, allowed for a bedroom to be configured as one Queen or two single long beds. This allowed for different configurations of guest bedding. Custom cushions that matched the bedheads also allowed for these bedding changes.
Additional artworks, including textiles have been added to the interior, as our clients explore the city and it’s galleries and exhibitions.
“ Life is about balance and holidays are an important way to rebalance. This home away from home, strengthened family and friends bonds and gave this couple a place to break away from their daily schedules “
